Water Distribution Network Preliminary Planner

Preliminary steady-state planning for a simple single-source tree using accumulated node demand, Darcy-Weisbach major loss and residual pressure propagation.

V1 demo topology is SOURCE → A → B. Engine contract supports a connected single-source acyclic tree; no loops or EPANET.

Engine sums downstream demand and propagates residual pressure.

Methodology

Single-source tree network preliminary balance

TOOL-014 accumulates downstream node demand on each segment, reuses frozen TOOL-010 Darcy-Weisbach major-loss calculations, and propagates residual pressure using frozen TOOL-012 pressure/head relationships.

Worked example

SOURCE pressure=350 kPa at 100 m. Node A demand=0.02 m³/s at 103 m; Node B demand=0.01 m³/s at 106 m. S1 carries 0.03 m³/s and S2 carries 0.01 m³/s. The independent reference gives Node A residual pressure 316.020597 kPa and Node B 283.398397 kPa.

Topology boundary

V1 supports one connected, directed, acyclic tree from one source. It does not solve loops or perform hydraulic balancing. Machine-readable scope is single-source-tree-major-loss-residual-pressure-preliminary. Source-root flow is checked against total node demand as a mass-balance invariant.

Limitations

No EPANET, Hardy Cross, pumps, tanks, time patterns, fire-flow scenario engine, minor losses or automatic diameter optimization are included.
